My Bookshelf: Experiencing God
Experiencing God was written by Henry Blackaby and Claude King. Published in 1994, the book seeks to impress upon its readers that God is still out there and we moderns can still experience Him.
Because God is multi-faceted, He can be experienced in multiple ways. To prove this, the authors use examples from the ancients’ lives. In Genesis 22,
Abraham experienced God as the ultimate Provider when He provided a ram for a sacrifice in lieu of his son, Isaac. In Exodus 3, Moses experienced God as the Great I Am when he encountered a burning bush. Moses began questioning how in the world he was supposed to go rescue the Israelites from their slavery in Egypt and God tells him, “Tell them I am sent you,” meaning I am who I am, I was who I am, I will be who I am. I am all you will ever need. It is true that God wants a relationship with you, just like He had a relationship with the Biblical greats. The way to know God or experience Him is through a relationship with Him. Biblical greats had personal relationships with God, so
deep that God even called some of them His friends.
The authors of this book pray that as your read this book, you will be able to:
• Hear God speaking to you.
• Identify the activity of God in your life.
• Believe Him and believe He will do what He says.
• See the direction He is leading you in.
