Ever wonder what the days of Holy Week mean? Each day depicts something significant during the last week Christ walked on this earth. Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday.
On Palm Sunday, Jesus began His death march to Jerusalem. (Mark 11:1-11) He knew where He was going and why. As He neared the village of Bethphage, He sent two of His disciples to look for a young donkey colt.
Jesus sat on the young donkey and made His triumphal entry into Jerusalem, fulfilling the ancient prophecy in Zechariah 9:9 “Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes
to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”
The crowds that day, welcomed Him by waving palm branches in the air, while they shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.” This crowd, in less than a week, would turn on Jesus and be calling out for His death.
